Platelet Rich Fibrin in Beverly Hills

What Is Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF)?

Platelet Rich Fibrin, often called PRF, is an advanced regenerative therapy made from a small sample of your own blood. The blood is spun in a specialized centrifuge to concentrate your own platelets, white blood cells, growth factors, and fibrin into a soft, biologic membrane or liquid that is placed directly at the surgical site. As a result, healing is faster, regeneration becomes more predictable, and the biological response is stronger, all while using nothing but what your body already naturally produces.

We recommend PRF in nearly every type of periodontal and implant surgery, including extractions, bone grafting, sinus lifts, gum grafting, implant placement, and regenerative therapy for failing implants. It harnesses your body’s own healing biology to amplify the result of whatever procedure it accompanies.

Patients typically come to us asking about PRF when they want the most natural, biologically driven approach to healing, prefer to avoid synthetic additives whenever possible, or want every advantage modern regenerative dentistry can offer for a complex procedure.

Benefits, Why MD Periodontics

  • 100 percent your own biology, PRF uses only your blood, no chemicals, no additives, no donor materials

  • Faster, smoother healing, the concentrated growth factors and fibrin accelerate tissue repair and reduce swelling, bruising, and discomfort

  • Stronger regeneration, bone grafts, gum grafts, and implants integrate more predictably when supported by PRF

  • Reduces infection risk, your own white blood cells, concentrated at the surgical site, support the body’s natural defense against bacteria

  • Whole body wellness aligned, PRF embodies the holistic principle of using the body’s own resources to heal, rather than introducing outside materials

  • Versatile across procedures, PRF enhances results in extractions, bone grafts, sinus lifts, gum grafts, implants, and implant rehabilitation

  • Beverly Hills specialist expertise, Dr. Moshrefi has decades of advanced regenerative surgical training, and Dr. Daneshmand brings USC-trained precision and a holistic philosophy to every plan we design together

Who Is a Candidate?

Most patients undergoing periodontal or implant surgery are excellent candidates for PRF. However, the right approach depends on the procedure being performed, your overall health, and your healing biology, all of which we evaluate carefully.

You may be an ideal candidate if you:

  • Are having a tooth extraction and want optimal socket healing
  • Are you receiving a bone graft, sinus lift, or ridge augmentation
  • Are having an implant placed and want the best chance for strong integration
  • Are you receiving a gum graft for root coverage or recession
  • Have a failing implant being rehabilitated with regenerative therapy
  • Want a metal-free, additive-free, biologically minded approach to healing
  • Have a history of slow healing and want every advantage
  • Are focused on whole body wellness and prefer biologic over synthetic options

Patients with bleeding disorders, certain blood conditions, severe anemia, or specific medications that affect blood clotting may need additional medical coordination, and in rare cases, PRF may not be appropriate. We review your full medical history to confirm safety.

The Process

  • Consultation and Treatment Planning. We begin with a thorough exam, a full medical history review, and a clear plan for your surgery. PRF is integrated into the broader plan to amplify the procedure, not add complexity for you.

  • Blood Draw on the Day of Surgery. A small amount of your blood, similar to a routine lab draw, is collected by our trained team just before the procedure begins. The draw takes only a minute or two and is painless for most patients.

  • Centrifuge Processing. Your blood is spun in a specialized centrifuge for about 10 to 15 minutes. The spinning separates and concentrates the platelets, white blood cells, growth factors, and fibrin into a soft biologic material ready for placement.

  • Surgical Application. The PRF membrane or liquid is placed directly at the surgical site, whether that is an extraction socket, a bone graft, an implant site, or a gum graft. It works immediately to support clot formation, reduce inflammation, and stimulate regeneration.

  • Healing and Long-Term Result. Your body absorbs the PRF over the following days as it steadily releases growth factors, supporting faster, smoother, and more complete healing than the same procedure without PRF. We monitor healing at follow-up visits.

Recovery and What to Expect

Recovery depends on the underlying procedure PRF is paired with. The PRF itself shortens and smooths recovery, often noticeably. In fact, patients who have had previous surgery without PRF and a later surgery with PRF consistently report a much easier experience the second time.

General aftercare basics:

  • Follow the specific aftercare for whichever procedure PRF accompanied
  • Stick to soft foods for the timeline of the main procedure
  • Avoid rinsing forcefully, spitting hard, or using straws on the first day, all of which can disrupt clot formation
  • Rinse with warm salt water as we direct
  • Skip strenuous exercise for the recommended period
  • Avoid smoking, which dramatically reduces the benefit of PRF and slows healing
  • Stay hydrated and focus on protein-rich, anti-inflammatory nutrition during healing
  • Keep all follow-up appointments so we can monitor regeneration

Call our office if you experience heavy bleeding that does not slow within an hour, severe pain not relieved by medication, fever over 101°F, drainage from the site, or swelling that worsens after day three.

FAQ

Yes. PRF is made entirely from your own blood with no additives, no chemicals, and no donor materials. Because it is fully autologous, there is virtually no risk of rejection, allergy, or disease transmission. It has been used safely in dentistry and medicine for years.

Yes. PRF is made entirely from your own blood with no additives, no chemicals, and no donor materials. Because it is fully autologous, there is virtually no risk of rejection, allergy, or disease transmission. It has been used safely in dentistry and medicine for years.

No. PRF itself adds essentially no discomfort to the procedure. You will only feel the small blood draw, similar to a routine lab visit, before surgery begins. Many patients say the recovery with PRF is noticeably more comfortable than they expected.

Coverage varies. Some plans cover PRF when it is integrated into a covered surgical procedure; others do not. PRF is often a modest additional cost relative to the broader procedure. Our team verifies your benefits and explains your out-of-pocket costs clearly before treatment begins.

PRP, or Platelet-Rich Plasma, is an older version of the same concept. PRF is the next generation, using a slower, additive-free centrifuge process that produces a stronger fibrin matrix, higher concentration of growth factors, and slower, more sustained release. PRF is generally considered superior for dental and periodontal use.

Almost every periodontal and implant surgery benefits from PRF. We use it in extractions, bone grafts, sinus lifts, ridge augmentation, gum grafts, implant placement, and implant rehabilitation. We discuss whether PRF is right for your specific case during the consultation.

Yes. Research and clinical experience consistently show that PRF accelerates soft tissue healing, reduces postoperative swelling and discomfort, and improves the predictability of bone and tissue regeneration. The difference is most noticeable in larger or more complex procedures.

Yes. PRF is one of the most aligned therapies in biological and holistic dentistry. It uses only your own biology, contains no synthetic additives, and supports the body’s natural ability to heal. It is a core tool in our whole-body wellness approach at MD Periodontics.

Often, yes. When an implant is struggling with bone loss or inflammation, regenerative therapy supported by PRF can dramatically improve healing and the likelihood of saving the implant. We integrate PRF into nearly every implant rehabilitation case.

Most patients of all ages can benefit from PRF, even those with chronic conditions. Diabetes, autoimmune disease, and other systemic conditions may slow healing, and PRF helps offset that disadvantage. We review your full medical history to confirm the safest, most effective plan for you.

For many patients, yes. PRF often reduces postoperative swelling, discomfort, and inflammation, which in turn can reduce the need for pain medication and antibiotics. This is one of the reasons it aligns so well with biologically minded care.

A very small amount, typically the equivalent of a routine lab draw, just enough to prepare the PRF needed for your specific procedure. Most patients are surprised by how little is required.

PRF is only as effective as the surgical hands using it and the plan it supports. Dr. Moshrefi has decades of advanced training in regenerative surgery, and Dr. Daneshmand brings holistic, precision-based care to every plan we design together. We integrate PRF into nearly every regenerative case to achieve the best biological results.
